Cruz Facing New Senate Ethics Committee Complaint From Nonpartisan Watchdog Over Shady Podcast Deal

AUSTIN, Texas – After Ted Cruz’s growing podcast scandal brought calls for the Federal Election Commission to “investigate and potentially sanction” him last week, the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center has filed a new complaint with the Senate Ethics Committee alleging Cruz violated Senate rules and the Ethics in Government Act.

The new complaint alleges Cruz “disguis[ed] speaking fees from hosting a podcast as payments to a super PAC,” and comes as a “slew of potential legal and ethical issues” continue to plague Cruz and his campaign.

Texas Democratic Party spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki issued the following statement:

“Ted Cruz’s shady podcast scandal is getting worse by the day. It’s clear that Cruz only cares about himself and thinks the rules don’t apply to him, which is why Texans deserve answers and a full investigation into the details of his arrangement. It’s par for the course for Cruz, who’s more focused on being a full-time podcaster than delivering as a U.S. senator.”
